"Imagine what an extra $100 billion a year could do for philanthropic and other nonprofit institutions. That's more than three times the annual giving of every charitable foundation in the United States combined. ... Adding such a windfall to nonprofit services seems too good to be true. But according to a study we recently completed with our McKinsey & Company colleagues, the nonprofit sector could free up that amount—maybe even more—by challenging the operating practices and notions of stewardship that currently govern the sector."

To date, over 800 people have responded to the first survey.   As a group they appear to be highly qualified and knowledgeable.

Not surprisingly , funding and resources is the top issue facing the sector.  Most people think the sector is well run but are very divided on the issue of collaboration.  Interestingly most people think it is more important to fund programs, even though they think that it is harder to run a Social Enterprise than a for profit firm.

The respondents to our surveys form a very sophisticated cohort.  The majority have worked in both the Social Economy and the For Profit sector.  Nearly 29% had worked in all three sectors!

In addition over 40% of the survey respondents have a Masters degree or Doctorate, compared with around 10% of the population.
